Lee Coleman sits on the Illinois State Black Chamber board of directors. The ISBBC is headquartered out of Peoria, Illinois. The ISBCC as is the SCCBCC are affiliates of the National Black Chamber of Commerce created I 1995, the President Harry Alford. There are 25 Illinois chamber under the umbrella of the ISBCC. There is a NBCC conference in July annually,(location is held in various cities ) and a ISBCC annual convention held in Peoria.
MISSION OF ILLINOIS BLACK BUSINESS JOURNAL:
The Illinois Black Business Journal’s mission is to advocate for and advance the development and growth of African-American owned businesses in state of Illinois. The economic empowerment of African American owned businesses contributes to and participates in the self-determination, economic growth and prosperity of African-American communities, thereby creating a strong economic base that nurtures, empowers and supports the ongoing success of these communities and our society at large. Increasing the number of successful African American owned businesses and helping them gain access to procurement opportunities and capital is an ongoing process, and the goal of the IBBJ.
ADVOCACY
The IBBJ maintains effective working relationships with it’s partners, corporate leaders and their supplier diversity executives, elected and appointed officials for the support of African-American owned business development, Locally, statewide and through out the United States. We are constantly monitoring pending legislation that might affect our member’s businesses, their growth and even their ability to conduct business. When legislation is being considered that affects our mission, the IBBJ quickly mobilizes to work with key policy makers to support, defeat or modify the bill in order to assure our members that the IBBJ’s shall pursue it’s “MISSION”.
